May 5th is the date of the 2008 SFMA Manufacturing Excellence Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The 2008 tournament will be our 21st ANNUAL! Besides an afternoon of fun, the proceeds from the tournament provide scholarships to member company employee children. To date, SFMA has awarded more than $66,000 in scholarships.
The Calvin E. Moore Memorial Scholarship is in memory of one of our past chairman. Calvin was very interested in teaching and in educational advancement. We know he would be pleased to have a scholarship in his memory.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
- Member company employee child
- High School senior
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Accepted at Florida college/university/technical school
- Pursuing a career in a manufacturing field (engineering, computer science, business administration or a mechanical/technical certification)
Please make your employees aware of the availability of these scholarships by displaying the enclosed information and poster on your employee bulletin board, by announcing it in your company newsletter and/or by writing each employee a memo. Some companies hand this information out with paychecks. You can also email the letters to your employees.
Have your employees take home a copy of the enclosed Applicant Letter and the Application Form if they feel that their child might qualify for the SFMA Scholarship. The application is to be completed by the scholarship applicant and mailed directly to the SFMA office by April 23st. Applications received after April 23st will not be considered. Personal interviews will be scheduled for the semi-finalists. Winners will be notified before the May 5th Tournament and invited to attend the Tournament Banquet with their parents to receive the $1,000 scholarship award.

Contributions to the SFMA Scholarship Golf Tournament are not deductible as a charitable contribution for Federal Income Tax purposes, but may be deducted as an ordinary business expense.
