HomeAbout SFMAROE - Mfg of the Year Criteria & Process

Criteria & Process

Manufacturer of the Year

Step 1

The first step in the process is to submit a completed nomination form. The completed nomination form will automatically trigger the company for consideration for Manufacturer of the Year. There are three categories to which a company can be nominated, and they are all based on the number of employees a company has:

  1. 1-75 employees Small
  2. 76-200 employees Medium
  3. 201+ employees Large

Step 2

Once the SFMA receives a nomination, the SFMA contacts the nominated company and sets up an interview between the senior executive and a representative from the panel of judges. The interview is not intended to probe into company secrets or delve into sensitive information. Rather, all questions will revolve around one of the six main criteria areas:

  1. Commitment to Employees

  2. Dedication to Quality

  3. Growth over the Past 2 Years

  4. Commitment to Customers

  5. Commitment to Community

  6. Innovative Systems & Products

Any additional information about the company can be provided in the interview.

Step 3

The judges review all the information provided by all the companies. Just before the Recognition of Excellence Banquet on March 12, all of the judges meet. At this meeting, consensus is reached on the final recipients of the Manufacturer of the Year designation for each of the three categories.

There are between 7-9 judges. Each of the recipients of the previous year's awards will have a representative on the judging panel. The Chairman of the SFMA is also on the panel, and from 1-3 impartial judges are also chosen based on their knowledge and experience in manufacturing in South Florida.

Step 4

Companies are not informed if they are chosen as Manufacturer of the Year until March 12, the night of the Recognition of Excellence Banquet. The banquet is a business event that brings together the best of South Florida manufacturing in a night of celebration. The Manufacturing Employees of the Year are also recognized at this event.  An elegant reception and dinner are part of the evening. The conclusion of the evening is when the Manufacturer of the Year is awarded.
