ARE YOU IN THE LOOP?
Get Involved!
There are a number of ways individuals can get involved. The SFMA offers many opportunities for you to volunteer or become immediately involved in helping to promote and grow regional manufacturing. These opportunities range from involvement on the SFMA Board of Directors, to joining special committees, and participating on some of the user groups specific to manufacturing operations.
SFMA Board of Directors
We encourage business leaders to join the SFMA Board of Directors. This prestigious volunteer board allows regional manufacturing leaders to set the strategic direction for their own industry. The Board of Directors meets the third Friday of each month. A total of 18 members serve staggered three-year terms. The Board of Directors sets priorities for the region’s manufacturers, and can include extensive involvement in issues such as legislative affairs, manufacturing related events, workshop/seminar development, as well as growing the organizations activities and resources. Two of the Board of Director’s more recent initiatives have resulted in millions of dollars being given to regional manufacturers in the form of workforce training grants, and the establishment of the statement manufacturing association – the Manufacturers Association of Florida.
Committees
Individuals can serve on one of four ongoing committees: Events, Legislative, Membership, and Workforce
The Events Committee helps plan, prepare, and promote the SFMA’s largest annual events:
- The Recognition of Excellence Banquet
- The Scholarship Golf Tournament
- The Annual Meeting
- The Manufacturing Expo
The Committee meets periodically in advance of the upcoming events. This Committee reports monthly to the Board of Directors.
The Legislative Committee is focused on issues dealing with governmental affairs. This can include issues in Tallahassee as well as in your local community. The Committee is responsible for creating South Florida’s legislative priorities. It also coordinates with the Manufacturers Association of Florida in establishing a pro-manufacturing business climate. Activities of this Committee include interacting with local Legislators, and coordinating a trip to Tallahassee during the Legislative Session. This Committee reports monthly to the Board of Directors.
The Membership Committee focuses on growing the membership of the SFMA. A healthy association is dependent upon a growing and involved membership. The Membership Committee helps develop and enact programs, campaigns, and strategies for increasing membership in the SFMA. This Committee reports monthly to the Board of Directors.
When you volunteer and get involved in the SFMA, all manufacturers benefit. Our industry becomes stronger, more unified, and more responsive to quickly changing needs. That makes you more competitive and more productive. Getting involved is the quickest way to gain maximum benefit from being a part of the SFMA.
